Latest store progress

Hello everyone.   We wanted to let everyone know that we're getting close!   We've been painting like crazy and fixing flaws in the sheetrock.  Trim is up and being painted.  The brick floors are a mess, with 22 years of grease buildup in the grout.  We purchased a steamer and have been steaming the grout clean!  This has been an on your knees up close and personal experience, but the sections of flooring that have been cleaned look great.  We had several windows replaced this week that were cracked and leaking air.  Glad thats done,

We've moved store fixtures in.  They have to be in there final positions in the store when the fire marshal comes out to do the final inspection.  We've been told that we cannot move any inventory into the store until we have our CO...(Certificate of Occupancy).

Anyway, excitement has achieved an all time high!  We have had more and more people call and come by, everyone is excited.

Our next post will most like be the news we are all waiting for...

Until then,

Bright Blessings, Michael and Sherry

Its been 30 days since our last update

We'll, its been 30 days since our last update!  We're almost there.

Zale came up last Tuesday and helped paint ceiling tiles, thanks Zale.  They look great!  We spent yesterday and today painting the walls with the first coat of paint (primer),  thanks Lenora and Cameron.  Seneca Grey Wolf worked on the outside hanging light, thank you.  We've been repairing the brick tiles and grout, thanks Lady Sada for the grout clean-up.

Thanks Brett, for being here every other weekend.  We appreciate all that you've done.

Our sign was scheduled to be installed the day before New Years Eve, but the weather was to bad for it to be installed, so maybe in the next couple of days.

We still have the exteriors doors do be replaced, cabinets to be installed, final paint, and lots of cleaning.  The bathroom toilets still have to be rebuilt with new inner-parts and wax rings and the stalls have to be re-configured for the new handicap codes.  We think in about two weeks we can try to get a temporary CO and start moving fixtures and inventory in.

We may need you to help with cleaning.  Any volunteers will be appreciated.

Store Progress

We've been furiously painting...the red paint on the store has been replaced with Taupe.  We still have half of the trim to paint, but the bad weather and the cold has stop that project.  I did get the parking lot stripes painted before it turned bad.

Our General Contractor says he's calling for a cover-up inspection tomorrow.  If ok he will be able to put up the sheetrock.  My tech's and I will be doing the low-voltage wiring over the next week, trying to keep ahead of the sheetrock.

Now the bad news: If everything procedes without further problems, our GC thinks he will finish up around Dec 22nd, which obviously doesn't allow us to get open before Yule or even Christmas. This has been a tremendous let-down for us, and we know that it is for you.  However, we promise that the wait will be worth it.

Building permits

We got the call this evening from Libby at the Fire Marshalls office that our plans have been approved and we will be getting our permits tomorrow or Friday.  Great, now we can get this show on the road!

We've been painting the outside of the building and are about 3/4's of the way through with that project.  Seneca Greywolf washed, cleaned and painted all the outside light fixtures. Come on by and have a look, the outside is looking good.

We received an order of essential oils this week from Aura Cacia and today our journals from Oberon Designs came in.  Beautiful.

Store progress update.

Well Friends,

We still don't have building permits. Seems things are being held up by the Fire Marshall.   He's questioning why we need a classroom when we are a merchantile store, etc...  The head building inspector signed off on his part on the 27th last month.  We really don't have a clue at this point for an opening date!

On a brighter note:  The planning and zoning committee approved our colors for the outside of the building and our sign permit has been approved.   So we've been painting furiously while the weather is warm and we've given the order to the sign maker. Yeepee!

The caudrons arrived, along with Amy Brown and Jessica Galbreth statuary.  Today we received our shipment of "Beanpod Soy Candles".  The delivery semi-truck broke down on the interstate on its way here, so I had to jump in the pickup and go to where the semi was.  We loaded our shipment into the pickup on the side of the road.  I say adventure, Sherry says 'madness and mayhem".

Our cabinet makers called today and said they have started building the cabinets and the countertops are on the way.  (C & T Custom Cabinets, in Taylorsville)  Cindy and Terry are GREAT and do a fantastic job!  They built our present cabinets that Sherry and Seneca GreyWolf pack herbs on.  We can't wait to see the new cabinets.

Oh, any requests for products you would like to see in the store?

Bright Blessings,  Sherry and Michael

Sign permit

The planning and zoning committee issued our sign permit today. Woohoo!  Still don't have our building permits yet.  The fire marshall called our GC Wednesday and told him that the paneling that was in the building had to come down (its a fire hazard!).  Other than that no other news on that subject.

We received a shipment of statuary, necklaces, and journals today from Munroe.  Beautiful stuff.

We will be at the store tomorrow to meet our cabinet makers.

Building update

Well, the building department still has not given us our building permit.  Cherokee County has a reputation for being slow, but geez.  However, we have been able to sell all the kitchen equipment and get it out.  Our General Contractor is confident we will be able to  open around the 1st of December.

We've been busy learning our new POS system.  There is a tremendous amount of data that has to be entered so that we can sell books and gifts.

We spent the day at the merchandise mart purchasing a new line of Fairy and Dragon statuary (Munro).  We also purchased a line of Soy candles (Bean Pod).  Beautiful stuff!  UPS brings several boxes a week of books and new items.  We can hardly wait to get our store open...

Ted Andrews

We wanted to let everyone know that author Ted Andrews passed into non-physical on Sunday October 24, 2009. Ted was kind, funny, generous, and touched the lives of everyone he came in contact with. Our loss is profound and unimaginable.
